Heads up, true believers! Marvel just announced on social media that they have joined up with publishing giant Square-Enix and Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics, unveiling a mysterious, exciting teaser trailer for an ‘Avengers Project’!
This is awesome news for fans of the Marvel universe who have been waiting for a brand new game experience. After Disney acquired Marvel, production on video games ceased following the repeated failure of tie-ins like Iron Man 2, Captain America: Super Soldier and Thor: God of Thunder. Thankfully, Marvel have been focusing on creating a wealth of quality games for fans to enjoy as of late. Re-releases of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 have gone down well, while those without a console can take their pick from a range of free-to-play mobile games.
The trailer for the Avengers Project doesn’t give too much away, but it’s enough to get us excited. An unknown female voice sets the tone with a dramatic narration. “They say the time of heroes is over” she says, speaking over recognisable images of the Avengers in action; the cracked glasses of Bruce Banner, the mighty hammer of Thor, the gauntlet of Iron Man and the shield of Captain America. It’s all very serious, suggesting a darker shift of tone akin to Batman: Arkham Knight or Crystal Dynamics’ own hit Rise of the Tomb Raider.
