Nioh, the upcoming action RPG from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja, is something of a dark horse to watch in 2017. Though many are quick to compare it to FROM Software’s ever-popular Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Nioh definitely has a charm of its own. Evoking the feudal Japanese settings of Onimusha and Tenchu and featuring a precision-based combat system, the game looks set to be a brilliant exclusive for the PlayStation 4. Personally, We love what we’ve played of it so far.
As well as the various enemies and demons you’ll encounter throughout the game, you can battle the ghosts of other players as controlled by the AI. However, Nioh will get one step closer to the Souls experience after release. As confirmed by game director Yosuke Hayashi in an interview with Gamereactor, Nioh will receive player-versus-player functionality as downloadable content. The best part? Hayashi confirmed that the content will be free, adding even more action to an already rich game. Good stuff!
This news is sure to make many eager fans happy and we can’t wait to see some of the epic battles players have in the game. Speculation about PvP has been growing ever since we got to try out co-operative play in the alpha and beta tests. As for season pass content, we’ll have to wait a little longer for any news or updates on that front.
